Criteria for NICCaTS transfer
- Transfer is by road and within N. Ireland.
- Transfer involves patient of 12 (or more) years of age who is not going to RBHSC
- Patient being transferred to;
An ICU outside their present (referring) hospital
or the operating theatre of the receiving hospital
or the scanning suite of the receiving hospital+
and patient is intubated/ventilated*
- Referring hospital;
has found an appropriate ICU bed
will supply nurse escort
will supply any additional disposables/drugs which may be required
has informed ambulance control of imminent need for ambulance
- NICCaTS is not already involved in another transfer

in RVH most trauma victims go first to Resuscitation room of A&E Dept. for assessment. This is in lieu of direct transfer to theatre/ICU/scanner

it is expected that the vast majority of cases will satisfy this criterion. If not, the case may still come under NICCaTS remit if the referring hospital demonstrates the need.
